Transmarine, an importer and specialist shop in Nuremberg, sent us these two great pictures of the hybrid dwarf angelfish hybrid Centropyge cocosensis/Centropyge eibli.
Since most fish release their eggs and sperm directly into the surrounding seawater, and many species reproduce almost simultaneously, hybrids are repeatedly formed in all oceans. A hybrid, or better yet, an interspecies hybrid, is thus a cross between different genera, species, or subspecies, with the fertility of hybrids only being given if the parents belong to the same species.
Classification: Biota > Animalia (Kingdom) > Chordata (Phylum) > Vertebrata (Subphylum) > Gnathostomata (Superclass) > Pisces (Superclass) > Actinopteri (Class) > Perciformes (Order) > Percoidei (Suborder) > Pomacanthidae (Family) > Centropyge (Genus) > Centropyge cocosensis/ Centropyge eiblii (Species)
