Info

The head and body of this hamlett perch are creamy white, with several indistinct dark bars running across the body and sometimes many faint, thin, blue bars; a wedge-shaped black bar is located below the black eye, which connects to an elongated black spot on the side of the snout, with these black areas outlined in light blue.

2-3 thin light blue bars are visible on the head behind the eye, of which the first two continue to the base of the pelvic fin and to the belly under the base of the pectoral fin.
A large black spot is clearly visible from the tip to the underside of the end of the tail base.

The pectoral fins are yellowish; the dorsal, caudal, anal and pelvic fins are also yellow, and the dorsal fin is also marked with fine diagonal blue stripes.

Hypoplectrus castroaguirrei prefers the rear and front slopes of reefs.
