Halicarcinus cookii (Filhol, 1885)
Flattened carapace, octagonal, narrowing towards the front. Carapace sides with teeth on each side. The color varies depending on the habitat, ranging from lime green to almost black, with or without whitish mottling.
Endemic, widespread throughout New Zealand including Stewart and Chatham Islands. Among algae (Corallina sp. and Hormosira Banksii), mussels and vegetation on open and rocky coasts. Intertidal zone, shallow water.
Similar to Halicarcinus spp. and Halimena aoteoroa.
