Parasphaerasclera aurea is another soft coral species from the South African waters, from KwaZulu-Natal (east coast of South Africa).in the south-western Indian Ocean.
The small soft coral stands out in the sea because of its bright yellow / golden coloration, the coral itself is only about 6cm in size, plus the long white polyps.
In the Sponge Reef in the Sodwana Bay, in the occurrence depth of the soft coral, where the relief of the reef is rather flat, a rather low light permeability prevails, so that zooxanthellate coral are scarce here, but sponges, gorgonians, black corals, azooxanthellate corals as well as sea squirts are frequently to be found.
In the area around Park Rynie, soft coral is often found under reef overhangs in more turbulent water zones.
Silimar species. Parasphaerasclera morifera
Synonyms:
Eleutherobia aurea Benayahu & Schleyer, 1995
Eleutherobia lutea Benayahu & Schleyer, 199
