Calcinus elegans (H. Milne Edwards, 1836)
Calcinus elegans is a hermit crab from the tropical Indo-Pacific. It is predominantly nocturnal in the sea. It inhabits coral reefs in depths up to ten meters.
It is very suitable for keeping in a coral aquarium. Attacks on lower animals are not known.
Important for care:
He needs regularly larger houses, into which he then also moves quickly. If these are not available, it will die. Today the trade has suitable snail shells available.
Calcinus elegans tends to hunt other hermits during molting and to pull them out of their snail shells. So if you want to keep this pretty one, you should not keep this species together with other smaller hermit crabs in one aquarium.
