Info
Diadema urchins are easy to keep but can grow very large. Most fish medicine is poisonos for them. Like other sea urchings they should never be lifted out of the water or exposed to the air in other ways for they may die when small air bubbles block their breathing system.
Their stings penetrate human skin easily and are very painful. Caution is required while working with your hands in the tank.
sealifebase: Venomous
Sea urchins have spines that can easily penetrate and injure the skin of humans.
If the spines penetrate deep into the flesh and break off, a doctor should be consulted immediately.
Also, always keep your vaccination record handy for such cases.
Bathers should always use bathing shoes in unfamiliar waters, which protect against sea urchin stings but also sharp-edged rocks, mussel shells, Petermännchen and other spiny sea creatures.
