Symploca hydnoides Kützing ex Gomont, 1892

Plant forming a turf of erect, wick like bundles, some with false branching; Thallus tufted, dirty light blue green, filaments densely intermingled, falsely branched, sheath very thin; Trichomes light blue, not constricted except towards apical regions having very slight constriction; cells mostly isodiametric, slightly constricted at the nodes, the apical cell often slightly inflated and rounded, with a thin end wall. Cell contents homogenous with or without single centrally located gas vacuole; Cell wall thin, smooth.
