Info
Several previously unknown marine amphipods were collected and described from the waters around South Korea using a hand net and a light trap.
The body is smooth dorsally and laterally compressed, the eyes of the amphipod are oval and well developed.
Pereopod 7, which is much longer than pereopods 5 and 6, received special attention.
Nothing is yet known about the biology of this species, nor about its role in the food chain.
Aoroides gracilicrus resembles Aoroides longimerus Ren & Zheng, 1996 from Dayawan, China, Aoroides myojinensis Ariyama, 2004 from Myojin-zaki, Japan, and Aoroidessecunda Gurjanova, 1951 from Primorskii Krai, Russia.
Etymology. The species name is derived from the Latin “gracilis” (= slender) and “crus” (= leg) and refers to the relatively slender base of Pereopod 7.
