Info

Edwardsianthus carbunculus is a sea anemone previously only known from the waters around Japan.
It contains zooxanthellae, which provide part of the necessary life energy, and the sea anemone also catches zooplankton.

The sea anemone has 20 tentacles in two cycles: 5 inner tentacles and 15 outer ones of a vivid scarlet colour.

Edwardsianthus carbunculus is not a symbiotic anemone for clownfish!

Etymology.
The epithet of the species refers to the ruby, a kind of gemstone, and it is thus named after the scarlet, bright red colour of its tentacles.
