Info

Deep water starfish such as Bathyferdina caelator are usually landed with trawls, intensive observation of this species is only possible with underwater vehicles, as the animal can only be found at quite great depths

Coloration:
The color of the starfish is brownish on the abacterial surface and white on the actinal, the bare areas on the marginal plates are darker brown.

Etymology.
The epithet "caelator" is a Latin masculine noun meaning "sculptor" and alludes to the complex patterns of glassy humps on the abactinal, actinal, and adambulacral plates (movable, calcareous protective plates) of the starfish.
