Info

Sympodium gibbaeum is a soft coral from the xenia family and was first described in 2021.

The living colonies show distinct mounds with extended polyps, which also show some color variations such as green-beige or gray
The morphology of the colonies, consisting of mounds with mostly round outline, is considered diagnostic for this species.

The collected holotype had the following dimensions: 3.2 x 1.5 cm, no other size data for the coral are currently available.

Etymology. The species name "gibbaeum" is derived from the Latin "gibbosus", meaning "hump", referring to the hills of the colony.
