Info
Melapedalion breve is a snubnose halfbeak with an underslung mouth, long known only from Philippine waters.
A recent survey from 2022 could now detect the species for the first time around Bangka Belitung, west of Sumtra, Indonesia, a short time before the half-billed pike could be described in the South China Sea.
The specimen discovered in Indonesia was collected together with silversides (genus Gerres) and spurdogs (genus Atherinomorus) in a coastal area (1 meter depth) characterized by a sandy bottom with patchy seagrass beds.
Synonyms:
Arrhamphus brevis (Seale, 1910)
Melapedalion brevis (Seale, 1910)
Oxyporhamphus brevis Seale, 1910
