Info
Psammoperca datnioides is a black, steel-gray, or brownish perch with dark lateral line scales and dark fins.
This species was formerly known as Psammoperca waigiensis.
Psammoperca datnioides differs from Psammoperca waigiensis in the following characteristics:
Slimmer body, pierced lateral line, scale rows above and below lateral line and vertically on posterior margin of maxilla behind/behind eye center.
Psammoperca waigiensis also has a brownish to golden body with yellow edged, pierced lateral line scales.
The species name "datnioides" is probably due to Richardson, who considered that this species had a resemblance to [-oides (= shape, resemblance)] fishes of the terapontid genus Datnia.
