Info

Areopaguristes setosus (H. Milne Edwards, 1848)

Areopaguristes setosus is a species of Anomura in the family Diogenidae. Family of hermit crabs, sometimes known as "left-handed hermit crabs" because in contrast to most other hermit crabs, its left chela (claw) is enlarged instead of the right.

Areopaguristes is proposed as the replacement name; from the Greek Ares, the God of War, in combination with Paguristes.

Areopaguristes setosus is known from New Zealand. Unfortunatelly, no further information are available.

Synonymised names:
Paguristes setosus (H. Milne Edwards, 1848) (superseded combination)
Pagurus setosus H. Milne Edwards, 1848 (basionym)
Pagurus setosus Filhol, 1885 (junior synonym and junior homonym)
Stratiotes setosus (H. Milne Edwards, 1848) (superseded combination)
