Special thanks for the first photo of Hypoplectrodes jamesoni to Tom Davis, Port Stephens Marine Life, Australia!
Hypoplectrodes jamesoni is a small sawfish endemic to nearshore reefs and estuaries of eastern Australia, often in the immediate vicinity of sponges.
The animal has a variable brownish-gray color, sometimes with a purple tinge.
James Douglas Ogilby named the species after Mr. Jonathan Thompson Jameson, an avid collector who had brought him many interesting zoological specimens.
The first identification of this seaperch has not been documented according to WoRMS.
Synonym: Ellerkeldia jamesoni (Ogilby, 1908)
