Acanthozoon alderi (Collingwood, 1876)
The genus Acanthozoon have small raised papillae on the dorsum and ruffled edges. Their body is elongate and oval. They have smallear-like pseudo-tentacles. Because of their papillaed upper surface, they are easily confused with Thysanozoon flatworms.Flatworms genus Acanthozoon have only a single male copulative organ contrary to Thysanozoon (have two).
Acanthozoon flatworms live in warm tropical marine waters. They are benthic and carnivorous.
Acanthozoon alderi is a relatively common and one of the largest species here in the Marshalls, this one can be seen under rocks or crawling about in the open during the day on lagoon and seaward reefs.
