This is a Shrimp goby that rarely get import to the US. I have only seen three of these gobies in person. I got one in my tank for the last 2+ months. He is a very beautiful Goby but very shy. I got him to pair with a red-banded shrimp goby (I don’t know the name). I have never seen him eat anything but live food, pods in the sand bed. He consumes preys are significantly larger than those Mandarin Dragonet would eat. I did not have any problem with disease with this fish, however, none of my fish got sick over the last two plus years.
This goby is very shy and seem to require subdue lighting. My tank is a 450 g, 8 foot long tank that have 3X400 MH and 2X250 MH. I never see him out during the day. He only comes out of his hole in the evening and night.
From my observation, I would recommend the following:
1. Treat this goby like one would a Mandarin. Make sure that he has plenty of live food to hung and thrive.
2. Avoid aggressive fish in this tank
3. Slow moving water near the bottom because his fins cannot tolerate very much current at all.
4. Low light
One maybe able to train him to eat frozen food. He does have a very large mouth, so he should be much easier to swallow larger prey of frozen food. Any specific question, please email me directly at mnguyen@stx.rr.com.
